The Rationalists, From Descartes to Leibniz

This course introduces the main authors of 17th-century rationalism, according to which valid knowledge stems from irrefutable a priori principles. The course focuses on Descartes, Spinoza, Malebranche and Leibniz, and examines their innovations in epistemology, metaphysics and moral philosophy. PREREQ: 18 university credits. (lec 3) cr 3. Students may not retain credit for both PHIL 2327 and PHIL 2325.
