Explanations of Crime

The objective of this course is to study the causes of crime with a main emphasis on crime in Canada. The Criminal Code is studied and crime is defined. Types of crimes are described and their quantity estimated. After considering causal explanations generally, several theories of crime are analyzed and evaluated. This course is intended as a companion course with SOCI 2067EL Institutions of the Criminal Justice System, but is not a prerequisite. Student cannot retain credit for both SOCI 2066 and 2086.
